SUMMARY
The Airport Shuttle Bus Driver is responsible for safely transport employees, traveling public and baggage between the airport terminal and parking facilities. Deal courteously with the passengers, deliver excellent customer service and represent the Airport in a positive, professional manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Drive passengers and their baggage between the airport terminal and parking facilities. Drive for tours, special evets and during irregular operations.
• Recognize driving safety hazards and use appropriate precautions based on Federal, State and Local guidelines.
• Follow the directions of the Shuttle Bus Dispatchers, Bus Operations Supervisors and/or Landside Managers.
• Use a 2-way radio to communicate location, emergencies and ask for assistance.
• Provide information about the airport to the public and assist travelers with ground transportation matters.
• Complete related paperwork such as vehicle inspection reports and vehicle work orders.
• Perform light cleaning inside bus (e.g., clean windows, empty trash, sweep).
• Under some circumstances, assist passengers with baggage.
• Assists passengers in boarding or exiting the vehicle as necessary, including operation of wheelchair lift and wheelchair restraints.
• Other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES
• Deal courteously with the public and represent the airport in a positive, professional manner.
• Fluent English language skills, clearly spoken to be understood over the radio and by passengers.
• Safely drive any of the shuttle bus models. These include, but are not limited to, 35-foot Diesel, Electric and/or Hybrid Buses.
• Follow oral and/or written instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
No minimum education level required and 3 years of bus driving experience
OR
High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of commercial bus driving experience
*MUST HOLD A VALID, CLASS B CDL WITH PASSENGER AND AIR BRAKE ENDORSEMENTS*
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-5 years commercial bus driving experience
- Customer service experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Positions in this class typically require grasping, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
• Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking extended periods of time.
• Light to moderate lifting when performing tasks.
• To comply with bus manufacturer specifications, a candidate’s weight may not exceed 350 pounds.
• Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.
• Must be able to pass the City of Charlotte pre-employment physical.
GENERAL INFORMATION
This position requires the availability to work any schedule that may be assigned. This includes nights, weekends and holidays. If a 2nd or 3rd shift is assigned after the training period, a shift differential of 2.5% will be added.
The training period for this position will be 3 weeks.
*The driver position is eligible for a $2000 signing bonus. The employee would receive the first $1000 after 30 days of employment and the remaining $1000 after successfully completing the 6-month probationary period.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
