Job Overview

We are looking for a Driver Manager to join our Operations team. The Driver Manager will direct, coordinate and supervise the activities of drivers to ensure productivity of both driver and equipment. They will maintain constant communication with drivers through various communication devices with focus on driver utilization, retention, idle time, fuel compliance, and out of route miles. Also, focus on key metrics for company success regarding safety, hours of service, customer satisfaction (on time service), productivity and compliance with company policy and procedure.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma; prefer at least 2 years of college
  • 6 - 12 Months of Experience as a Driver Manager in the trucking industry (Truckload)
  • Good data entry skills -- accuracy important
  • Prefer some experience with AS/400 computer
  • Excellent supervisory and communications skills
  • Professional, clean, neat appearance
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test
  • Excellent work history with proven track record
  • No conviction of felonies, serious crimes or have charges pending. However, a conviction is not an automatic disqualification of employment.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and be a self-starter
  • Ability to plan and organize workload; flexibility to handle pressure and work with interruptions and meet deadlines; attention to details
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Willingness to learn and accept responsibility

Responsibilities

  • Knows each assigned driver status and makes timely updates in computer.
  • Monitors and updates actual ETA and PTA of driver and coordinates same with Customer Service and Planning.
  • Reviews load assignments made by Load Planner to determine if feasible (i.e., miles assigned to order, driver hours available, appointment times).
  • Assures commitment from driver at time of dispatch that all requirements on load will be met. Makes sure all specific requirements are clear at time of dispatch.
  • Manages all monetary advance decisions for the driver.
  • Manages all vacation and time off decisions based on company, driver and customer needs.
  • Appropriately challenges load assignments where the needs of the driver or equipment are not being met. Coordinates findings with Load Planner or Customer Service Representative.
  • Train and counsel drivers on late pickups/deliveries, safety, hours of service requirements, fuel compliance, excessive idling and overall company policies.
  • Coordinates activity and welcome of new driver out of orientation, to include 1-on-1 counsel and exchange of expectation form.
  • Perform periodic driver reviews with their drivers utilizing TPI
  • Coordinates with Shop to make certain that scheduled tractor maintenance occurs on a timely basis.
  • Works on getting drivers quality time at home while balancing customer needs and minimizing out of route miles.
  • Attempts to meet driver needs to minimize turnover.
  • Maintains high productivity rate for all drivers to make certain that their financial needs and expectations are met.
  • Demonstrates support to the Epes Transport System, LLC Quality Management System and its objectives, as applicable.
  • Other duties as may be assigned
